The ingredients needed to make Gajar ka Halwa:
  1. Get Carrots
  2. Make ready Beetroot (totally optional)

  4. Take Sugar
  5. Get Milk Powder or 250 gm Khoya (Mawa)
  6. Get Clarified butter (Desi Ghee)
  7. Prepare Green cardamom 4 or if using cardamom powder then 1/4 tsp

Steps to make Gajar ka Halwa:
  1. Wash, clean & grate the carrots. No need to grate them very finely.
  2. Add finely grated beetroot for a nice colour. Avoid it if you don’t like or if you have red carrots.
  3. Add milk, cook covered for 20 minutes.
  4. After 20 minutes add half of the clarified butter & cook for 2 minutes on medium heat, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually add milk powder & ensure that there are no lumps in the halwa.
  6. Add sugar & mix well. Now it would release some water
  7. Stir it on medium/high heat till the halwa dries.
  8. Add the remaining clarified butter & mix well.
  9. Stir for 2 minutes on medium/high heat.
  10. Add cardamom powder & mix well.
  11. Add nuts of your choice & serve warm.
