  17. Take 2-3 pieces Red chilli whole
  18. Get 2-3 pieces Bay leaves
  19. Get 2-3 piece of each whole spices like cardamom,cinnamon,cloves
  20. Get 1 tbsp Garam masala powder / Whole spices powder

This khichdi is served as bhog to ma durga along with some other bengali delicacies. Moong dal khichdi, is a very basic. Today was Durgasthami and I made a big Bengali spread for the occasion. It included, aloo posto, Bengali style tamatar chatni, rosogullas and bhog er khichuri.

Instructions to make Bengali Style Bhog Khichdi:
  1. Wash the rice throughly and stain over a net. Spread it and leave it to dry.
  2. Heat pan and add daal and dry roast and turn it brown.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add rice and saute and then keep aside. Then add potato and fried well and keep aside. Then add cauliflower and fry it very well.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan and add cumin seeds, red chilli whole and bay leaves and garam masala whole and saute till fragrent.
  5. Add ginger paste and saute and then add salt, turmeric powder and cumin powder and saute.
  6. Add tomato and cover and cook it 2-3 min. Add green peas and potatoes and green chilli and mix. Add rice and daal and mix it very well.
  7. Cover and cook it 5-6 min and then add water and add sugar and cover and cook it till the rice and daal are completely cooked.
  8. After that add cauliflower and ghee and garam masala powder and serve hot with bengali mixed vegetables and papad.
