  2. Take 1 tbsp Cooking oil + ghee

  4. Get 1 tsp urad dal

  7. Take 1/4 tsp Hing

  15. Prepare 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopoed
  16. Get 1/2 tsp salt
  17. Take 1/2 cup water
  18. Make ready 1 tsp eno or 1/2 tsp baking soda
  19. Take 1/2 slice lemon juice
  20. Get 10 cashews, halves

This instant rava idli recipe is ideal for hurry burry mornings. In making these Idlis I used coarse rava (sooji, semolina) that works best with this recipe. Other type of rava would not give good Idlis. You will also find the instant rava idli packets of MTR available in market.

Instructions to make Instant rava idli:
  1. Firstly in a kadhai heat 1 tbsp oil and splutter 1 tsp mustard seeds,1tsp chana dal,1/2 tsp jeera, a pinch of Hing and few curry leaves
  2. Now add 1 chilli,1 inch ginger and saute for a minute.
  3. Further add 2 tbsp capsicum,1/4 tsp turmeric and saute for 2 minute.You can use any type of veggies like carrot; green peas
  4. Keeping the flame on low add 1 cup rava and roast well.
  5. Roast for 5 minute or until the rava turns aromat.
  6. Cool the rava completely and transfer to a bowl.
  7. Furthermore add 1 cup curd,2 tbsp coriander and 1/2 tsp salt.
  8. Mix well forming a thick batter.
  9. Now add 1/2 cup water and mix well forming a smooth batter.Add lemon juice also
  10. Rest for 15 mins or until the rava absorbs water.
  11. Mix well and add water as required to form an idli batter consistency batter.
  12. Grease the idli plate with oil and place cashews in the centre.
  13. Just before steaming add 1 tsp eno and mix well till it turns frothy.
  14. Pour the batter immediately into the idli plate. Do not rest the batter.
  15. Steam the rava idli 15-20 mins on medium flame.
  16. Finally serve instant rava idli with coconut or green chutney or tomato sauce and sambhar.

Other type of rava would not give good Idlis. You will also find the instant rava idli packets of MTR available in market. You just need to add water and steam it. That is easy, but trust me this homemade is also easy to make with little extra effort. These soft, and spongy steamed rice cakes are a perfect and healthy way to start.
