  2. Take 2/3 pound chuck, beef
  3. Make ready 2/3 pound lamb

  6. Prepare 2 medium onions
  7. Make ready to taste ground black pepper
  8. Prepare 2 cups lamb broth see recipe

Since my partner has family in Finland this lovely dish was introduced into my life. There is no need to remove small bones. Put the meat and coarsely chopped Onion in layers in a casserole, seasoning each layer with salt and allspice. Add enough water to almost cover the meat.

Steps to make Karelian hot pot:
  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Chop the onions, cut the meat into bite sized pieces, crush the allspice berries.
  3. Layer the lamb in the bottom of pot add half a teaspoon salt and pepper. Add a third of the allspice. Now add half the onion covering the lamb
  4. Now add pork on top of the onion. On the pork add half teaspoon salt, pepper to taste, and a third of the allspice. add rest of onions on top.
  5. Last layer add add beef, season with 1/3 of the allspice half teaspoon of salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour your lamb broth just covering the top.
  7. Braise in the oven 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
