Calzone is a folded Italian pizza which, by the sheer nature of its shape, is far more portable than a normal pizza and looks a bit like a Cornish pasty or turnover. A calzone is an oven-baked, folded pizza that has sealed edges so all the good stuff stays in! Anything that goes on a pizza can go into a calzone! The pizza fillings are placed on one half of the circular shaped pizza dough.

Steps to make Calzone:
  1. Cook your ground beef and sauté your veggies. While that is cooking, roll out one of the pizza crusts into a rectangle.
  2. Add sauce and spread to about an inch- inch and half from the edge of the crust.
  3. Add a layer of cheese followed by a layer of pepperoni. Then add some meat, mushrooms and chopped bell peppers. Top with another layer of pepperoni followed by more cheese and a little bit more sauce.
  4. Fold the short sides inwards a few inches so that your toppings won't leak out when it cooks. Then fold the long sides together to the middle and pinch closed to seal.
  5. Place the calzone seam side down on a baking sheet. Use a knife to cut a few slits in the top to let steam escape.
  6. this step is optional but I really liked it. Before baking, brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder.
  7. Bake according to the instructions on the pizza crust package (you may have to cook a little longer, you may not). When it's finished, take out of the oven and sprinkle some grated Parmesan on top.

The dough is then folded over, crimped, coated with an egg wash or a brush of olive oil and baked in the oven.. Marinara Sauce: Add a tablespoon or so of olive.
