- Prepare 3 fillet Basa fish
- Get 1 medium red onion
- Make ready 1 potato
- Prepare 5-6 pieces green chilli
- Prepare 1/2 tbsp kalonjee/nigella sativa
- Make ready 11/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- Get 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
- Prepare 5-6 tbsp oil
- Prepare to taste Salt
- Take Water as required
Instructions to make Basar Jhal:
- Chopped onion and tomato. Cut the potato into long shape. Slit the chilies.
- Cut the fish fillet from the middle and clean the fish very well with water. Now marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder.
- In the kadai/pan heat 3-4 tbsp oil and fry the fish. Turn over the fish carefully once one side done. Fry the fish carefully else the fishes will be broken.
- Now in the same kadai heat the rest oil and add kalonjee/nigella sativa. Then add potatoes and fry little.
- Then add onion and saute well. When the onion becomes translucent then add chopped tomatoes and green chilies and saute them well. Now add a paste of turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.
- Mix them well and cook until oil separates. Then add water as required. When it comes to boil add the fried fish.
- When it reaches to desire gravy consistency then switch off the gas and serve it with steamed rice. Remember the potatoes should be boiled properly.
